Scott Farmer is a woodworker and cabinet maker that contacted me at the onset of a huge upgrade to his space and operations. He was bringing on 6 carpenters and wanted to go from a word-of-mouth guy to a major local wood-working brand that catered to custom, high-end client projects.
After some research, I found that I could create symbols to represent the huge variety of woodworking joints—the foundation of strong and sturdy cabinetry.
After a few conversations with Scott, we had the bright idea to let the woodworkers choose four of the 20 symbols I created as their “signature.” Believe it or not, that allows for 4845 different combinations
of symbols if the order doesn’t matter. Any piece they worked on would have their unique combination of joint symbols burned into it (literally branded) to verify craftsmanship and origin.
